気取って英語で解説をつけてみたかった。英作文の確認用として自動翻訳を使った。１/32スケールに合う椰子の木は市販されていない。動物フィギュアーの市販オプションで検索すると３０００円ぐらいする木があった。自作しかないと散歩の途中でそれらしい自然の枝を捜したがなかなかみつからない。もしや１００円ショップと考え、最大級のショップに出かけた。中国製竹製品の壁にかける飾り物購入し、分解して部材を使った。葉は木の葉の形状であった造花の葉を椰子の木の葉に似せて切り追加工した。φ２．５のドリルで幹に葉の植え込み用穴をあけ、瞬間接着剤で固定した。背景の空はＦ１０４用に描いたもので、Ａ０サイズの大きな全紙水彩紙に描いていた。ソリッドモデル単品より見栄えはするが、本格的ジオラマには物足りない、作品だ。昭和１８年当時のソロモン諸島の航空基地は米軍にせよ日本軍にせよ、滑走路があり、飛行機があるだけだ。格納庫もなく、最低限のテント張りの兵舎に資材用の木箱があるだけで、背景は椰子の木だ。地面と背景の間にテントや木箱を設定するともうすこし絵になるのかもしれない。
